			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p> Albany, NY (January 05, 2009) - The Boilermakers Northeastern Joint Apprenticeship Committee, Local 197, will conduct recruitment from January 6 through December 1, 2009 for 15 apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today. Applications will be available at the local, 890 Third St., Albany, from 9 a.m. to noon, the first Tuesday of each month, excluding holidays, during the recruitment period.</p>
<p>The committee requires that applicants:</p>
<p>    * Be at least 18 years old – proof of age required when a bona fide offer of employment is presented or at the time of indenture.<br />
    * Have a high school or general equivalency diploma - proof required when a bona fide offer of employment is presented or at the time of indenture.<br />
    * Be physically able to do the work as determined by a verbal declaration and take an alcohol and drug test within 48 hours of signing an apprenticeship agreement.<br />
    * Have reliable transportation to remote work sites and apprentice instructions.</p>
<p>For further information, applicants should contact the New York State Department of Labor office located nearest their home or the sponsor at 860-569-8368.</p>
<p>Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.</p>

<p>The committee requires that applicants:</p>
<p>    * Complete an application form stating they are physically able to do the work, have reliable transportation to work sites and related instruction classes, and are able to read, hear and understand instructions and warnings.<br />
    * Be at least 18 years old.<br />
    * Take the NJATC apprentice selection battery test and obtain a score of five or higher.*<br />
    * Have a high school or general equivalency diploma or an associate&#8217;s degree, with a passing grade in high school algebra or a post-high school algebra course* &#8212; transcript or GED records required after acceptance for the program.<br />
    * *OR have a minimum of four thousand hours of substantiated electrical construction experience.<br />
    * Have a valid driver’s license.<br />
    * If a veteran, present a copy of their DD-214 for veteran&#8217;s credit.<br />
    * Pass a drug test – after acceptance for the program.<br />
    * Live within the local’s geographic jurisdiction (proof required) - all of Erie County; parts of Cattaraugus, Genesee and Wyoming counties.</p>

<p>Syracuse, NY (April 09, 2008) - The Electricians Joint Apprenticeship Committee of Syracuse, Local 43, will conduct recruitment from April 9, 2008 through March 11, 2009 for 25 apprentices, State Labor Commissioner M. Patricia Smith announced today.</p>
<p>Applications can be obtained the second Wednesday of each month, from 9 a.m. to noon, and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the John J. Barry Training Center, 4566 Waterhouse Road, Clay; and from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the NYS Office Building, 207 E. Genesee St., Suite 210A, Utica. They may also be obtained on the sponsor&#8217;s web site at www.cnyjatc.org</p>
<p>The committee requires that applicants:</p>
<p>    * Be at least 18 years old.<br />
    * Have a high school or general equivalency diploma with one year of algebra, math I or first-year high school Regents math &#8212; transcript required after acceptance for the program.<br />
    * Take an aptitude test.<br />
    * Take a physical examination and a drug test at the committee&#8217;s expense – if accepted for the program.</p>

Government jobs as well as education and health care sectors have remained the safest bet in this economic down turn, while this new stimulus bill should help the impact won&#8217;t be felt immediately. The Natural Resources and Mining sectors ended in December with a slight uptick of 1.6 look for the stimulus to help in this sector some time in 2010.     </p>
